Chocolate Cranberry Cheesecake

For the record, I think this is way harder than a pie. Delicious, but I don’t think I’ll make more than one or two cheesecakes a year.  I’d give you the recipe, but it’s over 600 calories per 1/12 of the pie.  I cut it into 24 slices and brought it in to work.  [...]

Case of the Wants

Dan and I are fairly frugal people. We don’t eat out more than 3-4 times a month (this includes lunches, pizza, etc.). We own second hand furniture. We get our books from the library. We take the free bus to work, so we only fill the car up once a month, [...]

Kitten Nap

Samwise Gamgee, age 5 months
The pink in his ears dates this to the unfortunate amoxicillin incident.
I’m partly putting this photo up to help ward off the chill out here.  Today there are gusts of wind at 45 mph and the wind is at a steady 25 mph clip.  Wind chill is well below zero.  I [...]

Apple Cranberry Pie

I used a butter crust for this one. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

2 cups fresh cranberries (I food processored it, but you can rough chop, too)

1.5 Tablespoons flour

Crumb topping

1/2 cup flour

1/2 cup sugar

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 cup cold unsalted butter

In large bowl, combine cranberries [...]

Friday Cat Blogging

Remember this post about Sam’s love of the heat vents?
Well, his favorite one is in the bathroom. If we had a cat-cam on him, half your viewing pleasure would be of him, sleeping here, in front of the toilet. Sometimes he even manages to squeeze his head into the heat deflector. It’s [...]

Apple Apricot Pie

This was is now my third favorite pie. First: Fresh Cherry. Second: Apple Pear with Wine.
Since the fruit in the winter is scarce, and I’m coming to realize frozen fruit makes mediocre pies, I’m trying to experiment with pies I think will be good in winter. An apple and dried apricot pie [...]

Pie Day! (and Orange Pie)

To celebrate National Pie Day, I made a few pies:
Apple-Apricot
Apple-Cranberry with crumb topping
Applesauce Pie
Curry Chicken Pot Pie
But, I was too tired to upload the photos last night, so I’ll treat you to the December pie that Dan made.  I anticipated having a whole Christmas Pie post, but if you remember, I was quite sick over [...]

Get Your Forks Ready.

Tomorrow is National Pie Day.
In preparation, I made 5 pies yesterday. I’ll start featuring them tomorrow and for several days after.
Let the pie extravaganza begin!

It’s over.

This photo is a few years old – Samwise was only about five months old here.  Anyway, I’d just like to point out that apparently I am not the only one who takes naps during Packer games – um, FAVRE.
