Britta Attacks

The man behind the camera is my husband. At the time of this picture, I had met him only once before. And that was for 5 minutes, during which time he pointed me down the hall to the office of my faculty supervisor. I don’t really remember meeting him before this party, but I do remember him on this night. He was funny, cute, and had these amazing blue eyes (and he still has those qualities, I might add).

In our digital archives, this one is titled “Britta_Attacks”. I have no idea if I did playfully attack or what prompted the title. I just remember having a good time and telling my old friends about this new person I had met. He quickly became my best friend and I’m shocked it took us months to start dating. When I think back to this party, the only person I remember is him. And it showed on my face, almost three years to the date before our engagement, don’t you think?

  • What a cute picture! Didn’t he come home with you for Christmas in 2001? All I knew was you left for grad school having just ended things with Eric and then came back at Christmas and we both had boyfriends. Or maybe I was so blinded by mine that I have the years all mixed up…

Did I ever show you the picture here? The picture on the right under the city hall arches has Tom in the green sweatshirt (the same one mentioned in my last comment) and yellow helmet. He’s looking at someone not visible on camera, and I am pretty sure that is me, only minutes after we met.

Your just-met picture is much more close-up and gleeful and fun!

  • Dan and I started dating in November 2001. He did come for Christmas, although I tried to break up with him because I was worried it would ruin our friendship/working environment if it went bad, and he simply responded “No”. I was so taken aback, I said, “Okay”. Good thing he knew what he wanted :)

  • Too cute! You can really tell that you were into Dan from your expression. Was it just your second anniversary this year?

I think it’s funny how men are always stereotyped as committment-phobes, but when it comes down to it, they are just as likely as a woman to understand a good thing when they see it.

Six weeks into dating Bob, he announced that he knew we were going to get married someday. I told him he was smoking crack. Thirteen happy years later, and the magic hasn’t stopped. (Neither has the crack-smoking. :) )

  • What a lovely look back! I’m afraid Craig and I don’t have early meeting pictures – for some reason we tended to run into each other in non-picture-taking situations. I rather wish we did, because we were friends for some years before actually dating. I wonder what showed on my face when I looked at him way back then (almost 22 years now!)

  • I love this picture (and it’s mysterious title). You’re right — you do look so happy! It’s neat to have these digital archives of the early stages of relationships. That’s one good thing about new technology, I suppose!

I agree with Anna — Phil was the one who finally decided after three years that, yup, he was in love with me. I had been convinced of it for years but had given up on it ever actually happening. And then, when I was least expecting it, suddenly all my friends were like “Carrie, you should see the way that he looks at you when you walk into a room.”

Sigh. I love young love. :)

  • Awwwwwwwwww…

I like the random dude in a cowboy hat in the background too.

  • That dude is a girl :)

  • I clearly remember the expression in Dan’s eyes the first time I met Dan as he walked through our front door. It was “I’ve found HER and I’m not looking at anyone else” even with meeting your Godmother and the the dog! Your dad didn’t believe me when I told him Dan knew you were ‘the one’, but that you hadn’t quite figured it out yet. We’re all happy you did!
