Friday Catbloging

Sam spends part of his day in the office, on the old kitchen table, staring out three corner windows. You know – giving the dogs next door the stink eye, lusting after squirrels, and of course SLEEPING.
I made his sleeping pad out of leftover fabric and some quilting batting. Took about 20 minutes [...]

Key Lime Pie

Dan made this pie!!! I came home from one of my out of town work assignments last month to find this in the fridge. Very yummy and such a nice treat

Country Dogs

Over the holiday, we hiked around the property with the two dogs, who are country dogs to their heart. One afternoon we couldn’t find them for a bit, kept whistling for them and concluded they’d gone off property (it’s a very forested area, I’m not sure they get “boundaries”). Half way through our [...]

Insurance

Dan and I spent Monday at the Urgent Care facility, and then in a specialist’s office. We have an appointment with a surgeon in two weeks, but hopefully he’ll fit Dan in earlier.
I am so thankful we have health insurance. We’re not sure the bill we’ll receive yet, I need to look up [...]

House in the Woods

Thanksgiving was spent in Tennessee this year.  We enjoyed a simple holiday and the break was quite nice.  Dan’s dad retired to a rural area and built a nice house alongside a pond on about 35 (mostly wooded) acres.   It’s pretty peaceful out there, and this past summer I spent a few days on the [...]

Margarita Thanksgiving

We spent Thanksgiving 2005 in Ixtapa, Mexico for our honeymoon. The weather was warm, the sights beautiful, and the drinks were exceptional.
This photo is from the hotel open air bar on Thanksgiving evening. It happened to be two-for-one margarita night. Lovely! We’ll take 2! And he promptly brought out 4. Did I mention they were [...]

Leaf Jumping

After raking up the leaves in our front yard (which, by the way, are all our neighbors leaves), we took Sam out for an afternoon walk around the yard.  I don’t trust him not to get run over by a car, so he wears a harness.  He’s cool with it and purrs madly when we [...]

Being Green – Soap

We are in no way green about our soap use. Practically every soap in our home, from the kitchen to the laundry and even the shower are Target generic brands. The fragrances and chemicals leach into the ground and into our aquatic systems. This is not good.
But all the biodegradable soaps I’ve found include one [...]

Apple, Pear and Wine Pie

A time consuming, but delectable treat. The wine intensifies the fruity tang and if I don’t mind saying so myself, the crust came out perfect. I used an apple wine from a local winery, but a Chardonnay is fine.
4 cups peeled, cored, sliced apples
3 cups peeled, cored, sliced pears
1/3 cup, plus 2 Tablespoons sugar
1 cup [...]
